Topic: Custom Trendlines

Are there any details available about exactly how Graph fits a custom trendline to a point series?

In the manual it mentions it briefly, minimizing the sum of squared errors by adjusting the parameters. It sounds like an evolutionary algorithm, maybe? I use it a lot for my academic work, and I know sooner or later someone will ask me the details of how the fitting is done, so I should really know that. Please let me know if there are any more specific details available.
